Abraham Amaliba has dismissed suggestions that Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi, is being unfairly targeted by prosecutors.

According to him, prosecutors are permitted by law to decide which individuals to pursue in court proceedings.

“The prosecutor chooses who to charge, and that is allowed in law,” Amaliba said on TV3’s New Day on Friday, June 19, 2026.

He argued that the existence of other individuals who may face similar allegations does not prevent prosecutors from proceeding against a particular accused person.

Responding to arguments that others may have committed comparable offences, Amaliba said the legal process allows prosecutors to determine which cases to pursue based on available evidence and prosecutorial discretion.

“The argument that there may be others does not stop the prosecutor from proceeding with a case against a specific individual,” he stated.

He maintained that prosecutorial discretion is a recognised part of the justice system.
