The local immigration data has revealed that Ghana recorded the highest number of World Cup-related visa denials to Canada ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Sporty FM, the data showed that 1,953 requests were made between November 2025 and March 2026 by fans and other individuals intending to travel to Canada to support the national team.

However, a staggering 73% of applicants were denied visas and were unable to make the trip for the tournament.

This raises concerns about immigration issues that have generated controversy surrounding the World Cup, as many fans were denied the opportunity to travel, while some of those granted visas later faced complications.

The situation comes in the wake of the visa denial for Black Stars midfielder Thomas Partey, relating to his ongoing rape charges, which rendered him ineligible to enter Canada.

His attempt to overturn the decision through an appeal also failed, as most of the court sided with the country’s immigration department.

Despite these setbacks, the Black Stars responded positively, defeating Panama 1-0 at Toronto Stadium in their opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
