AMA announces revenue enforcement exercise from June 22

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced plans to begin a major revenue enforcement exercise on June 22, 2026, targeting business operators and defaulted on the payment of Business Operating Permit (BOP) Fees, Property Rates and Rent owed to the Assembly.

In a statement issued on June 19, 2026, it warned that businesses and properties with outstanding rates will be locked and temporarily closed.

"As part of the enforcement exercise, businesses and premises found to be in arrears will be locked and temporarily closed until all outstanding payments are settled. Authorised officers of the Assembly will conduct the exercise with the support of the relevant enforcement agencies", it stated.

The Assembly further urged affected ratepayers to take immediate steps to regularise their payments to avoid inconvenience.

"Affected ratepayers are therefore advised to settle all outstanding obligations immediately to avoid any inconvenience", the statement said.

The Assembly also cautioned that defaulters may face additional penalties as prescribed by law.

"The AMA further wishes to caution that penalties may be imposed on defaulters in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and the Assembly’s applicable by-laws", it noted.

The AMA said the revenue from the payments is used to fund essential metropolitan services, including infrastructure development, sanitation management, public health interventions, and other city-wide projects.
