Confusion has erupted between two men from the Ashanti Region over the paternity of a child, as both men believe they are the biological father.
According to the case, the child was born to a woman both men have been dating, leading both of them to take responsibility for the child.
The issue came to light when Yaw Poku, a welder from Ahodwo in Kumasi, took his longtime partner, Maame Ama, also from Kumasi, to Lawson Afisem, a programme that resolves domestic issues on Lawson TV, on June 12, 2026.
Yaw Poku claimed that he had been in a relationship with Maame Ama for four years. He said that after they had a child together, they began experiencing problems in their relationship, which eventually led to their separation.
However, Yaw later discovered that Akwasi, whom his partner had been having an affair with, was also claiming responsibility for the child and supporting the child financially.
He said he was surprised by the development and was therefore demanding a DNA test to determine the child’s biological father.
“One day, I received a call and a different man was claiming that the same child she had told me was mine belonged to him. I was shocked because I had been taking care of the child all this while. The lady told me that when she delivered, the hospital charged her GH¢700 and I paid it. The man also claimed that he had paid the same GH¢700 to her,” he said.

Akwasi, who was later called onto the show to share his side of the story, confirmed that he had been in a relationship with Maame Ama. He said she informed him about the pregnancy and even showed him scan results indicating that the unborn child was a boy.
“Till today, I have not seen the child before but she told me her hospital bill was GH¢800 and I paid it. I also used to send her money every week for upkeep. About two months later, she told me that the child was not mine….but later I thought about it that I have been used or something, so I contacted her again and asked about the child and she asked me to send money to her mother because the child was staying with her. I even named the child myself,” he said.
When Maame Ama was called onto the programme, she denied that Akwasi was the father of the child.
She claimed that the child belonged to Yaw Poku and admitted that although she had a relationship with Akwasi, she never became pregnant for him.
According to her, the pregnancy claims and scan results she showed Akwasi were fabricated and were only used to obtain money from him.
“The child is not for Akwasi but for Yaw Poku. For Akwasi, I just lied to him that I was pregnant but I was not actually pregnant,” she said.
The issue ended with the parties agreeing that a DNA test would be conducted to ascertain the true paternity of the child.
