The Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has urged the government to account to the public after a large shipment of methamphetamine linked to Ghana was intercepted in Australia.

In a post on social media on X on June 19, 2026, he said the latest seizure reinforces earlier warnings he had given about Ghana potentially being used as a transit hub for international drug trafficking.

According to him, those concerns were previously dismissed and met with pushback from officials and supporters of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Another major drug bust originating from our country? When I kept cautioning about Ghana becoming a transit point for drug trafficking, NDC and Jubilee House released all their attack machineries on me,” he stated.

He described the development as damaging to Ghana’s reputation and called on the Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, as well as the Narcotics Control Commission and the Bureau of National Investigations, to explain the circumstances to the public.

“Now see the international embarrassment. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, NACOC and BNI owe this country an explanation. They shouldn’t escape accountability!” Rev. Ntim Fordjour wrote.

This follows confirmation from Narcotics Control Commission that it has opened investigations into the interception of about 320 kilograms of methamphetamine by Australian authorities. The drugs were reportedly hidden in a shipment declared as charcoal and sent from Ghana to Australia.

Authorities in Australia have since charged three people in connection with the case. The seized consignment is valued at roughly A$296 million and is believed to be capable of supplying more than three million street-level deals.
