Police investigate shooting incident involving Sarah Adwoa Safo

The Madina Divisional Police Command is investigating a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.

A statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, said preliminary investigations indicate that on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Sarah Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear while visiting her late father's residence in Kwabenya.

According to the statement, she subsequently reported the incident to the Kwabenya Police and presented a vehicle with registration number GN 3482-24, which had visible gunshot damage.

The police said the victim had been issued a Police Medical Report Form and was receiving medical treatment.

The statement added that the vehicle had been retained for forensic examination while investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Family background and father's death

Sarah Adwoa Safo is the daughter of the late Apostle Dr Ing. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Group of Companies.

Apostle Safo, widely known as the "Star of Africa," was a renowned inventor, industrialist, farmer, and herbalist celebrated for his contributions to technology, agriculture, and education.

He passed away peacefully on September 11, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on August 26, 1948, in Bekwai in the Ashanti Region, he founded Kantanka Automobiles and spearheaded the development of locally manufactured vehicles, machinery, and innovative farming techniques.

Adwoa Safo announced her father's passing on September 14, 2025, three days after his death.

The 40-day observance for Apostle Safo was held on October 20, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Complex, attracting thousands of mourners, including former presidents, Members of Parliament, and traditional leaders.

Funeral arrangements announced by Adwoa Safo in May 2026 scheduled the burial for July 30, 2026, at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, followed by a national farewell ceremony at Black Star Square on July 31, 2026.

The arrangements, however, sparked a public dispute within the family over consultation and the proposed burial dates.
