The leadership of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana has denied viral social media reports claiming that Sarah Adwoa Safo was shot, allegedly by her brother or security personnel, describing the allegations as “false and misleading.”

According to the church, in a statement dated June 21, 2026, the former Gender Minister and MP for Dome-Kwabenya rammed her vehicle into the entrance gates of the Kristo Asafo Mission church premises during what the church described as her brother’s leadership installation ceremony.

The statement also clarified that the incident occurred while a lawful event was underway on the premises, with numerous worshippers and invited guests present, including some seated close to the entrance.

The statement added that Adwoa Safo “forcefully drove her vehicle into the entrance gates”, striking two metallic structures and causing substantial damage.

“The actions described above created a serious risk to life and property,” the church said. “Had the gates completely collapsed or had the vehicle proceeded beyond the entrance, the safety of attendees could have been gravely endangered.”

Security personnel on duty intervened to prevent further escalation and protect those gathered at the event. The Mission stressed that their actions were directed solely towards preserving public safety.

The church rejected claims circulating on social media that Adwoa Safo was shot by her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, during the chaos.

It described images and accounts purporting to show her as a gunshot victim as an “apparent attempt to create a false impression”.

“To the best of our knowledge and based on information presently available to us, no such shooting occurred,” the statement read.

The Mission has called on relevant security agencies to conduct a “thorough and impartial investigation” into all aspects of the incident.

It also urged the public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unverified social media reports and allow law enforcement agencies to establish the facts.

The incident comes on the same day that Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena was reportedly being installed as the new leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission, a prominent Ghanaian church founded by their late father, Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
