It has emerged that Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Member of Parliament for Dome‑Kwabenya, was allegedly shot at while attempting to serve court documents to injunct the installation of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

‎This comes to light following claims from the lawyer and some official members of the church that Adwoa Safo herself first fired a gunshot, sparking the confrontation.

‎According to a statement released on Monday, June 22, 2026, the incident occurred at a property linked to Israel Safo, where witnesses alleged armed men opened fire during a gathering organized to support his installation as successor to the late founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

‎ Unconfirmed reports also suggest about 15 rounds of ammunition were discharged.

‎The Kwadwo Safo family statement described Adwoa Safo as the duly recognized head of the family and confirmed she was in stable condition and responding positively to medical treatment.

‎According to the statement, Israel Safo and some elders had planned a private installation ceremony despite what the family insists were succession directives left by the late Apostle.

‎ Two church members had earlier secured a court order to restrain the ceremony.

‎The family explained that repeated attempts to serve the court processes on Israel Safo had failed, prompting Adwoa Safo to personally deliver the documents, an effort that allegedly led to the violent confrontation.

‎“During the encounter, Mr Israel Safo discharged a firearm multiple times in her direction and also instructed associates at the scene to open fire on her vehicle,” the report cited the family as saying.

‎Meanwhile, the statement clarified that the matter has been reported to law enforcement authorities for investigation.

‎The statement further described Adwoa Safo as the duly recognized head of the family.
