You cannot blame Bawumia for attacks on Ken Agyapong - Bryan Acheampong

The Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Bryan Acheampong, has debunk suggestions that the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) 2028 flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, planned attacks against Kennedy Agyapong during the party's internal contest, stating that no evidence supports such claims.

According to a statement issued on Friday, June 19, 2026, he noted that some individuals associated with various campaigns, including his own, made comments that fell short of the standards expected within the NPP.

“During and after the contest, a few voices around the flagbearer’s and even my own campaign directed disrespect and sometimes insults at Hon Agyapong that were unworthy of our tradition,” he said.

Despite those incidents, he insisted that it would be unfair to hold Bawumia responsible for the actions of individuals who acted on their own accord.

“There is no evidence that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia commissioned, directed, or endorsed those attacks,” he stated.

According to him, those involved were motivated by personal disagreements with Kennedy Agyapong and not by instructions from the party's flagbearer.

“The individuals responsible carry their own long-standing grievances with Hon Agyapong, quarrels that are personal to them and that they have pursued on their own account,” he said.

Acheampong urged party faithful against using the actions of a handful of supporters to judge either Bawumia or the NPP, warning that such assumptions risk deepening cracks within the party.

He expressed optimism that the party could put the disagreements behind it and rally behind Dr Bawumia as the NPP seeks to reposition itself for a return to power in 2028.
