Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called for stronger economic integration among nations as a pathway to shared growth and prosperity.

According to a statement posted on Parliament of Ghana's official Facebook page on Monday, June 22, 2026, the Speaker made the remarks while delivering a keynote address at the 4th Marrakesh Parliamentary Economic Forum in Morocco.

Addressing participants at the forum, Bagbin stressed that countries can unlock greater economic opportunities through enhanced regional and inter-regional cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, investment and development.

"Stronger economic integration among nations remains one of the surest pathways to shared prosperity. Countries stand to gain significantly when they deepen regional and inter-regional partnerships and promote policies that facilitate trade, investment and cooperation," he stated.

Bagbin reaffirmed Ghana's commitment to economic diplomacy and highlighted the country's strategic advantages as a preferred destination for investors and businesses seeking access to the West African market.

He pointed to Ghana's political stability, expanding transport infrastructure, modern port facilities and ongoing industrialisation agenda as factors that continue to position the country as a gateway to the sub-region.

"Ghana remains strategically positioned as a gateway to West Africa. Our political stability, improving infrastructure, efficient ports and industrialisation agenda provide a solid foundation for trade expansion and economic growth," he said.

The Speaker also noted that Ghana's transition towards a 24-hour economy is expected to boost productivity and strengthen the country's competitiveness in the global marketplace.

"The move towards a 24-hour economy will enhance productivity, improve trade facilitation and increase Ghana's competitiveness in the global economy," he added.

Bagbin further underscored the need for people-centred integration, arguing that economic cooperation should go beyond the movement of goods and services.

"The integration of economies must be accompanied by the integration of people. The free movement of goods and services should be matched by the free movement of people to fully realise the benefits of economic cooperation," he noted.

He urged governments around the world to prioritise transparency, accountability and sound economic management to ensure sustainable development and long-term prosperity for their citizens.

Bagbin also commended the Kingdom of Morocco, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, the Parliamentary Network on the World Bank and IMF, and other stakeholders for creating platforms that promote economic collaboration among Africa, Europe and the Gulf States.
