President John Dramani Mahama is expected to officiate the sod-cutting ceremony for Phase II of the Sentuo Oil Refinery Project on Thursday June 25, 2026 in Tema.
The expansion project is expected to significantly boost local refining capacity, promote value addition, conserve foreign exchange and create employment opportunities, while strengthening Ghana's position within the regional petroleum industry.
Upon completion, the refinery's processing capacity will increase from 40,000 barrels per day to 100,000 barrels per day, positioning Ghana among the leading oil refining centres in West Africa and enhancing its role in the region's energy value chain.

The ceremony is expected to bring together key government officials, industry leaders and stakeholders from across the energy and industrial sectors. Among the dignitaries expected to attend are the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor; the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare; and other senior government officials.
Executive Chairman of Sentuo Oil Refinery, Ningquan Xu, described the Phase II expansion as a transformative undertaking that will contribute significantly to Ghana's industrial and economic development.
According to him, the project represents a defining moment in the country's industrialisation journey and reflects Sentuo's commitment to supporting Ghana's long-term energy security, economic growth and value-addition agenda.
"The Phase II expansion represents a turning point for Ghana's industrial future," Xu said.
The expansion is expected to strengthen Ghana's petroleum refining capacity, reduce dependence on imported refined petroleum products and support the growth of the country's downstream petroleum industry.
It also forms part of broader efforts to accelerate industrial transformation, deepen local value addition, stimulate economic growth and position Ghana as a leading energy and industrial hub in the West African sub-region.
The project aligns with the government's vision of building a resilient, competitive and self-sustaining industrial economy capable of attracting investment, creating jobs and delivering long-term prosperity for Ghanaians.
