Popular illegal mining figure, Kwame Ato Asare, has dismissed widespread rumours circulating on social media claiming that he had died following a recent cutlass attack linked to a galamsey dispute.

Kwame Ato Asare, who has gained notoriety in the Western Region over his involvement in illegal mining activities, appeared in a viral TikTok video to assure the public that he was alive and receiving treatment after the bloody clash with alleged rival galamsey gangs.

“I am not dead; I am alive. While I was in the hospital, this woman did not spend my money. She used her own money to take care of me, and I will always appreciate her support,” Ato said in the video.

The former galamsey kingpin, who previously made headlines after the police declared him wanted while he continued granting media interviews, said reports of his death were false.

Rumours about Kwame Ato’s death spread rapidly across social media after reports emerged that he had been attacked again.

The speculation intensified after he remained absent from social media for some time, causing many followers to question his condition.

However, Ato has now broken his silence, appearing on TikTok Live to address his followers and reassure them that he survived the attack.

During the live session, he thanked friends, family members, and supporters who reached out to check on him during his absence.

According to him, he was touched by the concern shown by the public and appreciated the prayers and messages of support.

He urged people not to believe every report circulating online and thanked God for preserving his life despite the difficult experience.

While debunking the death rumours, Kwame Ato disclosed that he is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital following the attack.

He explained that his condition has prevented him from carrying out normal activities, including visiting the bank to access his money.

According to him, a Good Samaritan has been supporting him throughout his recovery by helping to pay his medical bills and take care of his needs.

It may be recalled that the then Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Nzema East Municipality in the Western Region, Dorcas Amoah, alleged that Kwame Ato Asare once ordered the closure of schools in a community over a missing mobile phone.

According to her, the incident occurred during a funeral, resulting in tension and confusion within the community.

She stated that it took the intervention of the Municipal Education Director, the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), teachers, and other community stakeholders to restore calm before pupils were able to return to school.
