Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw, has claimed that he possesses the solution needed to tackle sexual abuse and related scandals in Ghana's Senior High Schools (SHSs).

According to him, growing concerns over alleged sexual misconduct involving students and teachers in some second-cycle institutions require urgent intervention from all stakeholders, including parents, school authorities and teachers.

Set up 'Sex Audit Committees' to probe sex scandals in SHSs – Lawyer Ampaw

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV, and monitored by GhanaWeb on June 24, 2026, Ampaw expressed worry about the safety of students in SHSs and called for immediate discussions on the issue across schools nationwide.

"Our children in the various SHS are not safe," he said.

He urged Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to take a more active role in addressing the situation, proposing emergency meetings on school campuses to discuss measures to protect students.

"What do parents do when they go to PTA meetings in the various schools? Let's have an emergency meeting on all campuses. In fact, all the teachers in the various secondary schools need counselling. I'm the only one who can teach them how to avoid a sexual scandal. I will never say it here on TV," he said.

The lawyer further advocated increased monitoring of teachers and suggested that students should also be held accountable where necessary.

"Let's blame the children too; we need to bring a situation where teachers will learn how to handle bad girls in school, and let's begin to monitor the teachers," he said.
