The drugs were destroyed by NACOC
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has destroyed large quantities of seized narcotic substances, including cocaine, cannabis, and cannabis-infused products, during its annual drug destruction exercise in Accra.
The exercise was carried out on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, under the supervision of the commission and other stakeholders.
Among the substances destroyed were 9.6 tonnes of cannabis, 46.89 kilograms of cocaine, 2,734 bottles of cannabis-infused drinks, and 130 boxes of hemp-related products.
Other items destroyed included 171 bottles of shampoo infused with cannabis, 10 barrels containing alcoholic beverages mixed with cannabis, eight barrels of loose cannabis, 14 sacks containing cannabis-infused liquid substances and 213 boxes of bottled liquid products containing cannabis extracts.
Speaking during the exercise, Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, said all the substances had been legally seized and cleared for destruction through the courts.
“The substances being destroyed this morning were lawfully seized through the dedicated efforts of NACOC and our partner security agencies and have gone through the legal processes and have gotten permission to destroy them,” he said.

Brigadier General Mantey used the occasion to warn individuals involved in the illegal drug trade to stop their activities or face arrest.
“We will come after you. You may be operating now thinking nobody has caught you, but be rest assured. This is the grace period. It is better you stop now before we get to you,” he stated.
The NACOC boss reiterated the commission’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and abuse, stressing that security agencies would continue to track and arrest persons involved in the narcotics trade.
