Ghana Christian University assures community amid legal challenges involving president

The Ghana Christian University College (GhanaCU) has assured students, staff, alumni, parents, donors, and other stakeholders that its academic and administrative activities remain fully operational despite ongoing legal challenges involving its President, Rev Dr James Yamoah.

In a memorandum issued by the University's Management on June 15, 2026, the institution sought to address concerns arising from recent court proceedings that led to Rev. Dr Yamoah's 14-day imprisonment for contempt of court.

The assurance came days after the Adenta High Court sentenced Rev. Dr. Yamoah to 14 days in prison for contempt of court in connection with an ongoing legal dispute.

However, in a subsequent development, the Court of Appeal granted his release pending the determination of legal processes surrounding the case, bringing relief to members of the university community who had expressed concern over the institution's leadership and operations.

Management emphasised that teaching, learning, examinations, admissions, research activities, and all administrative functions continue uninterrupted, while the University's governance structures remain intact.

According to the memorandum, the legal matters before the courts are being addressed through the appropriate judicial channels, and the University remains committed to upholding the rule of law while protecting the interests of the institution and its stakeholders.

Management noted that its legal team has been actively pursuing all lawful avenues regarding the President's bail and release, as well as addressing related legal concerns.

The University further stressed that it is taking steps to safeguard its integrity, reputation, and legacy, which it says have been built over years of academic excellence and service. Management expressed confidence that the legal processes underway would provide a fair and just resolution to the issues before the courts.

GhanaCU also appealed to members of its community to remain calm, focused, and supportive during the period, urging them to avoid speculation, misinformation, and actions that could undermine the image of the institution. Staff were encouraged to continue their dedicated service, while students were advised to remain committed to their academic pursuits.

"As a faith-based institution, we believe that every challenge presents an opportunity for growth, resilience, and renewed commitment to our mission," the memorandum stated, expressing confidence that the University would emerge stronger through the support of its stakeholders and God's grace.

Management concluded by thanking stakeholders for their prayers, loyalty, patience, and continued support, while reaffirming its commitment to the University's mission of advancing excellence in transformational leadership.
