Kwadwo Safo Jnr, the youngest son of the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, has dismissed claims that former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo was groomed to succeed their father as leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, June 25, 2026, Kwadwo Safo Jnr explained that his elder sister was assigned a motherly role within the family from a young age.

According to him, their father intentionally prepared Adwoa Safo to care for her siblings and serve as a maternal figure in the household.

"The name Maame was given to her by our father, but her real name is Sarah. Our father would make her carry the younger ones and take pictures with us. According to our father, she is the mother of all of us," he said.

He noted that their father often relied on Adwoa Safo during difficult periods and entrusted her with significant family responsibilities.

"Hon Adwoa Safo was brought up to be our mother. So, growing up, our father told us that he used to go to the farm with my sister because he had nothing at that time," he stated.

Addressing speculation about succession within the Kristo Asafo Mission, Kwadwo Safo Jnr insisted that neither Adwoa Safo nor any of the founders' children had been chosen to inherit the leadership of the church.

"People will tell you that our sister wants to lead the church, but that is not necessarily true. In our father's constitution, he said even his grandchildren cannot succeed him," he said.

He further revealed that Apostle Safo had clearly outlined his wishes regarding the future roles of his children, adding that he himself was never considered as a potential successor.

"Our father told us where he wants all his children to go. Even with me, as I speak to you now, I can boldly tell you that my father never considered me for church leadership," he said.

Kwadwo Safo Jnr also disclosed that his close association with Adwoa Safo over the years had nothing to do with church succession plans.

"I was made to follow Hon Adwoa Safo not for church leadership but for another aspect of life," he stated.

His comments come amid ongoing public discussions and speculation over leadership and succession within the Kristo Asafo Mission following the death of Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.

The press conference was attended by some members of the Safo family and supporters of the Kristo Asafo Mission, as efforts continue to clarify issues surrounding the future direction of the church and the legacy of its founder.
