United Party leading member, Hopeson Adorye, says he would deploy the armed forces against illegal mining operations if he became president.
According to him, the damage being caused to water bodies and forest reserves requires stronger action.
“One day, if I become president of this country... water bodies, reserves [must be protected], charge your armed forces to take helicopter, fly over the forest, start spraying inside,” he said on GTV’s Breakfast Show.
Adorye argued that Ghana must prioritise protecting its natural resources.
“We need to protect our own selves. We should not allow some of these things to happen,” he stated.
He said pollution from illegal mining activities poses a threat to communities and the environment and requires a more forceful response.
