The Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, has announced the arrest of two more suspects linked to the shipment of 320 kilograms of methamphetamine, which were concealed in sacks of charcoal and exported to Australia.

Speaking at the commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Friday, June 26, 2026, and monitored by GhanaWeb, Brigadier General Mantey said the arrests were made on Thursday night following the earlier arrest of the alleged mastermind.

"Last week, our international partners intercepted a shipment bound for Australia. On Wednesday, we took the mastermind into custody here in Ghana, and just last night, two more suspects were picked up, and more will be picked up," he said.

He warned that investigations were ongoing and more arrests would be made as NACOC works to dismantle the drug trafficking network.

"They thought they could operate in shadows; they were wrong. We are far from done. To every trafficker, syndicate, and to every network that thinks Ghana is open to business, we are coming for you," he stated.

Brigadier General Mantey also cautioned individuals involved in drug trafficking that the commission had gathered intelligence on their activities.

"Our antennae is very high and we have the information. You may never know and as I always say, when you are picked, two people will free you. God and the court," he added.

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, NACOC announced the arrest of the alleged mastermind behind the shipment following months of surveillance carried out in collaboration with the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) and other security agencies.

The case gained international attention after Australian authorities intercepted about 320 kilograms of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of nearly US$208 million, concealed in sacks of charcoal shipped from Ghana to Sydney.

Australian authorities have since charged 34-year-old British actress Emaa Hussen and two other suspects over their alleged involvement in the drug trafficking operation. Hussen has been denied bail and remains in custody.
