Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, several pastors and prophets made predictions about the tournament.

Some of these prophecies have attracted backlash from the public after failing to materialise.

Here are some of the prophecies that have so far been disproven.

Prophet Nigel Gaisie predicts South Africa's early exit

The Founder and Leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, released a series of prophecies for 2026.

On June 18, 2026, he posted on Facebook, saying, "South Africa will be the first country to exit the tournament. I pray win for them, chec..."

However, South Africa currently sits second in Group A with four points, a position that has secured qualification to the next round of the competition.

'Declan Rice will score own goal for Black Stars' – Prophet Telvin predicts

'World Cup may be postponed'

Speaking to his congregants during his church's December 31, 2025, Watch Night service, Prophet Nigel Gaisie said the prophecies had been revealed to him by God and carried global implications.

He also predicted that the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada, could be postponed.

"I saw in America a lot of jets in the skies. If we don't pray, the World Cup may not come on, or maybe it may be postponed, or there will be a problem with the one in America.

"The Lord carried my spirit, and I saw planes in the skies of America. I will pray and we will avert it because prayer can avert things," he said.

'Black Stars will lose all World Cup matches' – Prophet Eric Boahen Uche

Earlier in May 2026, Prophet Eric Boahen Uche predicted that the Black Stars would lose all their group-stage matches.

According to him, the current Black Stars squad was spiritually weak and needed prayers and divine intervention.

"Ghana should come and see me. They will lose all three group-stage matches in the competition. I'm not joking. With humility, they should come for consultation so I can help.

"It is the spirit that we use to play football. In the spiritual world, the team is weak. When the matches are about to be played, I will come and tell the scoreline. When I said they would lose the friendlies, they lost them, right?" he said.

The prophecy was quickly disproven when Ghana defeated Panama in their opening match.

Fans and celebrities ridiculed the prediction, with musician Captain Planet publicly criticising the prophet.

Meanwhile, the pastor has since clarified that fasting and prayers by his church helped avert the situation.

Prophet Elisha Anane predicts Ghana's victory over England

Prophet Elisha Anane of Charismatic Praise Ministry International also predicted a victory for Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with Sankofa Radio, excerpts of which were shared on social media, he stated that Ghana would defeat England.

"They should write down the 41st minute. Ghana will score against England and win the match before the 90th minute. I have seen it and I am not here for Ghanaians to insult me. Ghana is going to score and win; simple," he said.

The match between Ghana and England was played on June 23, 2026.

Declan Rice own goal for Ghana

Ghanaian prophet Telvin Sowah predicted that England midfielder Declan Rice would score an own goal to hand the Black Stars victory in their 2026 FIFA World Cup clash prior to the match.

According to him, Ghana is destined to win the match spiritually despite facing a star-studded English side.

He described England as a team full of pride and confidence because of the quality of its players.

The prophet at the time claimed the victory would symbolise Ghana "colonising the colonial masters," adding that England would struggle throughout the game.

"We are going to colonize them. They will cry in British. The referee, the coach will sweat. He will change the players. We'll colonize them. My God. Their king will call and say, 'What is happening?' We'll colonize them. From the 41st minute, we will colonize them into the second half. Hallelujah.

"They are number four. Their match is not even finished. We are laughing. We said we'll give them independence in the first half. We said Ghana palava, it will never happen. I'll say at the World Cup, on the pitch, we colonize them. Then they are sweating. Then they are tired. Then they are running," he told his congregation in a viral video.

Prophet Telvin further claimed that Declan Rice, who wears the number four jersey for England, would score an own goal despite England putting in a strong performance.

"Then their number four, he's the one that gave us the goal. They'll just be running, woohoo. They'll just be running around the park like that, by heart. Then we are scoring them. Then the defender will leave the ball, then you enter the pool. First one will jubilate, then we'll come back.

"They'll be playing around the pitch. They'll play nice football, but now we are running faster. We are moving quickly. But they should always remember my catalyst," he added.

However, the prophecy did not come to pass, as Ghana settled for a draw in the match.
