The High Court in Accra has fixed July 20, 2026, for the hearing of a judicial review application filed against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Right to Information Commission over the alleged refusal to release investigative documents.

The case, filed under Suit No. GJ/0087/2026, is titled The Republic v The Inspector General of Police and the Right to Information Commission (Ex parte: William Kofi Yirenkyi).

The matter is scheduled to be heard at 9:00 a.m. at the High Court in Accra. According to a hearing notice issued by the court, failure by any of the parties to appear on the scheduled date will result in the case proceeding in their absence.

The application seeks judicial review under Articles 23 and 141 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, as well as Order 55 of C.I. 47.

The applicant is challenging what is described as the refusal of the first respondent, the Inspector General of Police, to release the full investigative report and suspect caution statements to him.

The Right to Information Commission is also cited as a second respondent in the case.

Court documents indicate that the application is seeking orders compelling the release of the requested information, along with any further directions the court may deem appropriate.

Service of the hearing notice is directed to be effected on the Inspector General of Police at the National Police Headquarters in Accra, as well as the Right to Information Commission at Kanda, Accra.

The application has been filed by counsel for the applicant, Martin Kpebu of Black Star Legal Services, who is representing William Kofi Yirenkyi.

The High Court’s registry issued the notice in Accra in June 2026, formally informing all parties of the scheduled hearing date.
