Students are allegedly lacing popular Ghanaian snack 'Kosua ne meko' with weed
The Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Alexander Twum-Barimah, has raised concern over a growing trend of students infusing drugs into food and drinks on school campuses.
Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile on June 27, 2026, he revealed that some students are now mixing weed into ice cream, sobolo and kosua ne meko (eggs and pepper), before selling or sharing them on campus.

He said the worrying trend came to light following the arrest of five students at Central University in a recent drug-related operation.
Twum-Barimah explained that the suspects were not outsiders but students distributing the drug-infused products themselves.
"Not long ago, I think last week, we did a case with Central University. We arrested about five students from Central University. The challenge with them was that it was not even an outsider coming in to sell it. Let's say, they bring the drugs to the campus ie the students. That's the danger,” he said.
"The students themselves had infused ice creams, Sobolo, and egg and pepper with weed,” he disclosed.
Twum-Barimah said the practice has made drug abuse among young people more difficult to detect.
It will be recalled that five students of Central University were arrested by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) over their alleged involvement in the production and sale of cannabis and cannabis-infused products on campus.
The suspects, made up of Level 100, Level 300, and Level 400 students, were arrested during a targeted operation conducted by NACOC following intelligence reports of illicit drug-related activities within the university community.
