Alexander Afenyo-Markin is the Minority Leader in Parliament
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated that under the current administration, it is more expensive to locally produce rice than to import.
According to him, this has become possible because the government has abandoned agriculture and is fixated on GoldBod and its related activities.
He says as a result, farmers in the country are struggling, and that, to him, is very worrying.
The Minority Leader also noted that because of the misalignment in government policy, farmers, after going through the stress, do not even have a market for their produce.
For him, until the government fashions out a way to ensure that agriculture is given the utmost attention, the country’s farmers will continue to suffer.
Afenyo Markin made this claim while addressing TESCON members.
“Meanwhile, these losses if they had a clear understanding of running the economy, they would have been able to introduce a policy to promote agriculture, look at the food basket of our country, support farmers and make savings and create a balance for everybody but they are focusing on GoldBod, the Gold for Reserves is their main focus, abandoning agriculture it’s the reason why recently you heard the fight between the ministry of agriculture and the ministry of finance.
