Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has expressed concerns over the government’s decision to neglect agriculture.

According to him, the current government has focused all its energy on GoldBod and has left agriculture to suffer as a result.

He believes that if the government had invested in agriculture rather than the GoldBod, Ghana would have made gains rather than the losses recorded by the GoldBod.

Afenyo Markin made this known while addressing TESCON members.

“IMF reports that the GoldBod transactions are in excess of 9 billion losses. What has happened to the Agenda 111? A government must be in the continuum. What have they done? They are not continuing the Agenda 111 projects.

Meanwhile, these losses if they had a clear understanding of running the economy, they would have been able to introduce a policy to promote agriculture, look at the food basket of our country, support farmers and make savings and create a balance for everybody but they are focusing on GoldBod, the Gold for Reserves is their main focus, abandoning agriculture it’s the reason why recently you heard the fight between the ministry of agriculture and the ministry of finance. So today in Ghana, you may check for yourself it is cheaper to import rice than to locally produce rice. Our locally produced rice is more expensive. Maize is more expensive; people are importing maize,” he said.
