A 14-year-old Junior High School graduate has allegedly been left with a mental health challenge after she was reportedly defiled by a man believed to be in his mid-30s at Dormaa Akwamu, in the Bono Region.

According to a report by crimechecknewsgh.com, and sighted by GhanaWeb on June 28, 2026, the suspect, Exekel Tabiri, also known as ‘One Day’, has been accused of luring the girl into his room on the night of June 7, 2026, around 8 pm, under the pretext of sending a gift to her mother.

Once inside, he allegedly placed a bangle-style charm on her wrist before forcefully engaging in intimacy with her.

Tabiri who is known to be an undertaker, reportedly warned the victim not to disclose the incident, or she would die, and gave her GH¢50 before letting her go.

The young girl, who had just completed JHS, has since been placed under mental health supervision as the ordeal has left her deeply traumatised and unstable. Her mother recounted the painful sequence of events:

“I sent my child on an errand to buy water that fateful night, but she failed to return home early. She later came and slept after delivering the water. The next day, I noticed an unusual change in her behaviour, and when she was questioned, she narrated her ordeal at the hands of Exekel Tabiri, who was my classmate and a church member of my husband,” the mother of the victim recounted.

What makes the case even more devastating for the family is the betrayal of trust.

Tabiri was not a stranger but someone known to the family during school days and in church circles.

ASP Irene Danso, who is in charge of the Dormaa Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DVVSU), confirmed the case.

She explained that the suspect has been in their custody, appeared before the Dormaa and Nkrankwanta courts, and has since been granted bail to re-appear at a later date in July.

The incident has sparked outrage in the area, with many residents calling for swift justice and stronger protection for children against such predators who hide behind familiarity and even resort to charms to intimidate victims.

The girl’s ongoing mental health struggles highlight the deep, lasting scars such abuse leaves on young survivors and their families.

Authorities have appealed to persons with further information to contact them and assist with investigations.
