Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Jonathan Amoako-Baah, has called for stronger health, environment, safety and security (HESS) legislation to reduce workplace injuries and preventable deaths.

Speaking at the 8th edition of the HESS Awards ceremony in Accra, Amoako-Baah, who chairs the HESS Awards Committee, noted that despite progress in the extractive and energy sectors, industrial accidents continue to claim lives.

The event is annually held to reward hard-working individuals and organisations across the country.

He, therefore, urged companies to go beyond profit-making and invest in the safety of their workers through sensitisation and outreach campaigns.

The awards, organised by Ianmatsun Global Services Limited, recognised companies excelling in health, environment, safety and security compliance.

The event was held on the theme “Beyond Compliance: Building Resilient Organisations through Integrated HESS Excellence.”

For his part, Isaac Nana Adu-Gyamfi, the Events Director of HESS Awards, underscored the importance of workplace safety as a culture rather than a compliance requirement, stressing that employers and employees must work together to prevent avoidable injuries.
