Parts of Accra have been hit by flooding, a fire outbreak and power outages following heavy rains that began on the night of Sunday, June 28, and continued into the morning of Monday, June 29, 2026.

Videos and reports circulating on social media show several communities submerged after the prolonged downpour, with some stranded residents appealing for rescue teams to come to their aid.

Amid the flooding, a fire also broke out at the Odawna/Okaishie Rubber Market area in Accra at about 8:15 am, despite the ongoing heavy rainfall.

The incident has sparked concern among traders and nearby residents, who have called on emergency responders to intervene.

According to initial reports shared on social media and sighted by GhanaWeb on June 29, 2026, the fire occurred while parts of the capital were already grappling with floods that disrupted movement in several communities.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and it is unclear whether personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service have fully brought the blaze under control.

In addition to the floods and fire, residents in Ofaakor, Ablekuma Omanjor and Labadi Wireless have reported power outages, raising concerns about the impact of the downpour on electricity supply.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior has issued a public advisory urging residents to take precautionary measures and prioritise their safety amid the adverse weather conditions.

It also assured of a swift deployment of security officials to affected places to intervene in the reported cases.

As of the time of filing this report, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) had not yet issued official statement on the reported power outages.
