The Ministry of the Interior has urged the public to exercise extreme caution following heavy rains and widespread flooding experienced in several parts of the country.

"As a precautionary public safety measure, members of the public are advised to remain where they are until conditions improve. Those who are safely at home are urged to stay at home, while those who are at their workplaces or other safe locations should remain there until it is safe to travel. Unnecessary movement should be avoided," it stated.

The Ministry also cautioned motorists and pedestrians not to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways.

"Unnecessary movement should be avoided. Motorists and pedestrians are strongly advised not to attempt to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways, as floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose significant danger to life and property," the statement said.

It noted that emergency response teams have been deployed to affected areas to monitor the situation, assist stranded persons, manage traffic, and carry out rescue operations where necessary.

These include the Ghana Police Service, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

The Ministry urged communities in flood-prone areas to, "Move to higher ground where it is safe to do so and promptly report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency or emergency response service".
