Multiple mobile phones belonging to patients were reportedly stolen from the Maternity Ward of Mamobi General Hospital in the early hours of Monday, between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.

Patients and relatives who were on the ward during that period said the thefts occurred while most people were asleep, despite the presence of security guards stationed at the hospital's main entrance.

According to one of the victims, Comfort Ahiadzebge, she woke up around 12:30 a.m. and discovered that her Tecno Pop 50 phone was missing.

"I looked around, and my phone was nowhere to be found. Before long, all the patients in the ward started complaining that their phones were gone.

“There were three of us in the ward," she said in an interview with African News journalist Paul Mensah Nsor, whose wife was also a victim and whom he had gone to visit at the ward.

However, some patients say hospital officials have responded that "every patient is responsible for his or her property."

"This is a patient who is seriously ill and is supposed to be protected. Expecting her to provide her own security in a hospital, especially on a maternity ward, raises serious questions," one relative said in the interview.

Nurses at the facility reportedly told patients that such incidents "have been happening regularly" at the hospital.

The case has not yet been reported to the police and no suspects have been identified so far.
