A number of areas in the southern part of Ghana were heavily flooded on Monday, June 29, 2026, as a result of the rainstorm that began on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

The flood led to the devastating loss of life and property, with at least 12 deaths being confirmed by the Ghana National Fire Service.

Several communities in the nation’s capital, Accra, were submerged under water, with the floodwater sweeping away cars, people, and structures.

Viral videos of the incident showed people standing on rooftops and walls, crying to be rescued.

One of the videos showed the moment a man who was swept away by the floodwater was dramatically saved by another man.

The first man attempted to catch him as he was being swept away, but he could not.

Some of the community members, including a woman who was recording the video, could be heard screaming for help for the man.

Some of them could be heard telling the man to hold onto any of the pillars close to him, but he was helpless.

Then came the hero of that moment — another man who was himself taking refuge on a wall.

The video showed the hero sitting on the wall and stretching out his hand to catch the man who was being swept away.

With a firm grip, he managed to hold the man and pull him onto the wall.
