Heavy rains that began on the night of Sunday, June 28, 2026, and continued through most of Monday, June 29, 2026, have claimed lives and destroyed properties across parts of the Greater Accra Region.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), on June 29, 2026, the death toll from the devastating floods has risen to 12.

The Service added that although more than 150 people have been rescued since the flooding began, search and rescue operations are still ongoing to assist affected residents.

Videos circulating on social media captured the scale of the devastation, with some showing vehicles being swept away by strong floodwaters, while others depicted stranded residents standing in chest-high water and appealing to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for assistance.

One of the more unusual scenes from the disaster showed residents scrambling to retrieve groceries and other products that had been washed away from shops and warehouses by the raging floodwaters.

The floods inundated several communities, displaced residents, disrupted traffic, damaged homes and businesses, and prompted emergency response efforts by the Ghana National Fire Service and other agencies.
