President John Dramani Mahama has told the Finance Minister to release funds for flood relief
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate release of GH¢300 million from the Contingency Fund to support flood relief and mitigation efforts following the recent flooding in parts of Accra and other communities in southern Ghana.
The directive was announced in a statement issued by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

According to him, GH¢150 million of the amount will be used to provide emergency relief for people and communities affected by the floods, while the remaining GH¢150 million will be invested in measures aimed at reducing future flooding.
"President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Minister for Finance to release GH¢ 300 million from the Contingency Fund to finance urgent flood relief and mitigation efforts,” portions of the statement read.
The Presidency said the intervention forms part of the government's response to the flooding caused by hours of heavy rainfall.
"The directive forms part of government's response to the flooding of parts of Accra and other communities in the southern sector of the country after hours of unusually heavy rainfall,” it noted.
The President has also ordered the deployment of personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service to support the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other security agencies in ongoing rescue and relief operations.
"The President has also directed the deployment of personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces and Police to work with NADMO and other security services in the rescue and relief operations currently underway across the city,” it added.
According to the statement, the directive comes on the back of an aerial tour of the flood-hit areas by the president.

The tour aimed to assess the extent of the damage and review measures being implemented to protect residents and prevent future flooding.
