Benjamin Quashie is Ghana's High Commissioner to South Africa
Ghana's High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quashie, has advised Ghanaians living in the country to remain indoors amid widely publicised anti-immigration protests scheduled for June 30, 2026.
Speaking in an interview shared by Channel One TV on June 28, 2026, Quashie urged Ghanaian nationals to avoid going out unless absolutely necessary.
"Please do not go out to open your shop or any business you operate in the country. If you are a documented resident and you have to step out for reasons beyond your control, ensure you carry your documents with you and present them to the authorities if requested," he said.
Quashie further disclosed that arrangements were have been made to provide security protection for Ghanaians currently being accommodated at selected hotels and church facilities.
He urged those at the temporary shelters to remain there until further directives are issued.
The High Commissioner also assured Ghanaians that measures had been put in place to safeguard their welfare, adding that plans to evacuate affected nationals from South Africa were at an advanced stage.
