Free shopping in the rain

During the downpour, a warehouse reportedly storing various goods in the Tema area became flooded, causing its gates to open and several products to be swept away by the floodwaters.

Residents flocked to the scene and freely collected the items floating in the water.

The goods reportedly included toiletries, biscuits, toffees, and other provisions.

One resident, when interviewed, said he heard about the incident on TikTok and decided to join others to "shop for free" in the rain.

Waakye seller draws attention

Amid the heavy rain, a waakye joint was captured with a crowd of people standing in the rain, waiting to be served.

Someone behind the camera recorded the scene and shared the video online.

Many social media users commented that the seller should have fled to safety instead of prioritising business during the flooding.

Sex workers swim through floodwaters

Alleged sex workers occupying a structure near Circle Railway were affected by the flooding, with some area boys seen helping them navigate the floodwaters.

In videos shared online, some of the women were seen wading and swimming through the water in search of safer shelter.

Taxi driver refuses to leave his car

A taxi driver reportedly spent more than two hours trying to prevent his vehicle from being swept away by the floodwaters.

In a viral video, the driver was seen clinging to his taxi despite the heavy rain and rising water levels.

Motor rider swept away with his motorbike

A motorcyclist was also captured being swept away by the floodwaters.

According to a video circulating on social media, an excavator operator pleaded with him to abandon his motorbike and move to safety.

However, he refused and held onto the bike until both he and the motorcycle were swept away.

Man breaks neighbour's wall to redirect floodwater

A viral video shared on social media showed a man breaking part of a wall separating his house from his neighbour's property.

According to commentary accompanying the video, the man's house had been flooded while his neighbour's remained unaffected.

He allegedly broke the wall to allow the floodwater to flow into his neighbour's compound.

A voice behind the camera could be heard expressing shock over the incident.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has announced a GHยข300 million post-flood relief package for victims after conducting an aerial inspection of the affected areas.
