Branch Manager of Bob One Trading Limited, Kwaku Kyei, has called on the government to support companies that have been severely affected by the recent floods that destroyed several properties and claimed at least 12 lives.

According to Kyei, companies are suffering heavy financial losses due to the floods and if the government does not come to the aid of these businesses, workers could bear the consequences through possible layoffs.

Speaking to the media after the Monday, June 29, 2026, floods destroyed items worth more than $2 million at the company's warehouse in Accra at Graphic Road, he said government relief packages for post-flood losses should be extended to affected companies.

"It rained yesterday and all the goods in our warehouse have been destroyed. Our hardware section, including nails, roofing sheets and POP cement, has been affected. We also have commodities such as oil, rice, sugar and flour. In addition, home appliances, including refrigerators and televisions, company vehicles and private cars, have all been destroyed by the floods.

"We hope the government can come to our aid in any way possible because we have more than 100 workers here, all of whom have families. Laying them off because of this disaster would not be appropriate, so we are pleading with the government to support us.

"We also appeal to the government to improve and extend the drainage system, desilt the gutters and provide any other form of assistance, whether financial or otherwise.

"We have lost more than $2 million," he said.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has announced a post-flood relief package of GH¢300 million to support victims affected by the disaster.

The President, who conducted an aerial assessment of the extent of the destruction, described Monday's rainfall as one of the heaviest the country has experienced in several years.

"The amount of rainfall recorded today is among the highest experienced in several years. Preliminary data indicates that approximately 140 millimetres of rain fell on Accra. By comparison, the highest single-day rainfall recorded last year was about 56 millimetres," the President said.
