Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye, has called on Christian leaders to refocus on the core mandate of the Church by raising righteous and patriotic citizens instead of placing excessive emphasis on anointing oil, anointing water and anointed powders.

Speaking at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on July 1, 2026, Apostle Nyamekye said Ghana's transformation depends on nurturing "a new Ghanaian" who loves the nation, upholds integrity and is committed to its development.

"We need to have a new Ghanaian who will love the flag of Ghana above everything else," he said.

According to him, building such a citizen requires a renewal of minds and a deliberate move away from wickedness and negative societal attitudes.

He also advocated reforms in the country's educational system to address corruption, unemployment and the decline in patriotism.

"If corruption is a problem, let's start dealing with it from the primary school so that when somebody gets to the university, ethics and national development become a compulsory course," he said.

On unemployment, Apostle Nyamekye proposed that entrepreneurship be made an integral part of education to equip young people with the skills to create jobs rather than depend solely on formal employment.

He further urged church leaders to shift their focus from religious objects and practices to developing people of strong moral character.

"The church is so much about powder, anointing oil, anointing water. Let's focus on raising righteous people who impart their spirit. Let the church change. We need new pastors who understand the call," he stated.

The Church of Pentecost Chairman also encouraged Christian families to revive family altar sessions, describing them as a vital tool for instilling godly values and discipline in children.

Quoting Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi, he said a small group of committed people driven by faith and purpose could transform the course of a nation.

He urged Ghanaians, particularly people of faith, to become agents of change by embracing values that would help build a more prosperous and ethical society.

"May this small body of us, new Ghanaians, here and beyond, be fired up by an uncontrollable faith in our mission to reset our values, build the Ghana we want and alter the course of this nation for a better Ghana," he said.
