Danger confronted commuters and travellers along the Accra-Kasoa Highway, particularly around the Ataala area at the SCC-Barrier stretch, on June 30, 2026, after two explosive convoys got trapped in a heavy traffic gridlock caused by flooding.

The convoys, which appeared to be under security escort, were heading towards their destination but got caught up in the heavy traffic.

Exclusive footage captured by GhanaWeb’s videographer Kwame Adzaho-Amenortor showed the vehicles stuck in traffic alongside other commercial vehicles, all waiting for their turn to move.

This followed severe flooding along the stretch after the heavy rainfall on June 29, 2026, which left the road impassable and many commuters stranded.

Several commuters were forced to wait for hours for the floodwaters to recede before they could continue their journeys, while others had to wade through the water on foot to reach their destinations.

The Accra-Kasoa Highway stretch was among several areas that were heavily affected by the flooding, disrupting activities along the route.
