The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has admonished Obiri Komfo Anokye Boakye II, the Agonahene, to hold his office in high esteem, according to an opemsuo.com news report on June 29, 2026.

According to Otumfuo, the Agonahene stool is not an ordinary one but a sacred and significant position within Asanteman.

The report detailed that, granting Agonahene’s request to swear the oath of allegiance, the Asantehene said, “You will now oversee the rules that hold together the 77 laws of Asanteman. I have the soul of Asanteman, and I have it because you, Komfo Anokye, gave it to me. You hold a crucial position which should not be trivialised.”

Otumfuo also cautioned the Agonahene to be circumspect in his dealings.

“The position is a privilege. You are Komfo Anokye, and you cannot involve yourself in everything, nor can you move about freely at will.”

The Asantehene further pledged to personally take him through the requisite lessons and training needed to equip him for his mandate.

The Asantehene added that, once the training is completed, Asanteman will observe its first Odwira Festival in decades.

“Once you are fully equipped with the needed power, together with your mother, Agonahemaa, we will observe Odwira. That will be one of your first assignments.”

Addressing the Agonahemaa, Nana Acheampomaa Ntansa Yiadom II, he charged her to support the Agonahene and guide him in carrying out his responsibilities.

Taking his oath of allegiance, Obiri Komfo Anokye Boakye II pledged to remain at the beck and call of the Occupant of the Golden Stool.

He succeeds Nana Frimpong Anokye Ababio, who passed away in 2022.
