‎The New Life Regeneration Foundation has called for deeper collaboration between government and non‑governmental organisations (NGOs) to strengthen rehabilitation and reintegration programs for young people battling addiction.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb during the foundation's commemoration of the International Day against Drug Abuse on June 26, 2026, the CEO of the Foundation, Roselyn Sena Gbetanu, emphasised the need for government machinery to complement NGO efforts, noting that rehabilitation remains costly and often overlooked in national health programs.

“Rehabilitation is very expensive. If dialysis costs as much as detoxification for a drug addict, then government should also look at reforms to support addicted people,” she said.

‎She also highlighted existing initiatives such as 'Adwuma Wura', SEED, and Mahama Care, stressing that while these programs target specific health needs, rehabilitation services must also be prioritized.

‎“We need proper structures when it comes to rehabilitation. Institutions should be shaped into one‑stop help centers for young people. Schools often report drug abuse cases but have no access to help,” Gbetanu further added.

Beyond rehabilitation, the Foundation underscored the importance of correction facilities and community education.

"Parents should not see correction homes as punishment. Children there still go to school and access amenities, but with discipline. Addiction is a cash trap; it drains the future of young people,” she explained.

‎The Foundation also urged chiefs, queen mothers, and community leaders to help disseminate the Narcotic Control Commission’s curriculum to reduce stigma and promote awareness.

‎“Addiction is a disease, not just a condition. We must involve families, churches, and communities in counseling and prevention,” she concluded.
