Emotional scene as mother mourns two children lost in devastating Accra floods

A mother who lost two children in the recent devastating floods in parts of the Greater Accra Region broke down in tears during a condolence visit by the Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Elikplim Akurugu.

A video shared on social media by Askghmedia on July 2, 2026, shows the grieving mother overwhelmed by emotions as the MP consoled her.

The incident comes in the wake of recent torrential rains that caused flooding in several parts of the country.

The floodwaters submerged homes, cut off roads, and overwhelmed drainage systems.

According to an update presented to Parliament by the Interior Minister, Mohammed- Muntaka Mubarak, the floods displaced about 38,800 people.

He also confirmed that at least 12 persons lost their lives, while seven others remain missing.

Meanwhile, search and recovery operations continue in hard-hit communities.

Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain vigilant as weather forecasts indicate more rainfall could worsen the situation.
