Asantehene and Yagbonwura during the historic Manhyia Palace visit
The entourage of the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, delivered a vibrant cultural display at the Manhyia Palace when they performed the traditional Damba dance before Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II during a historic royal visit.
The colourful procession, marked by rhythmic drumming, chanting, and elegant dance movements, showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Gonja Kingdom and the deep respect its people hold for their Overlord.
The Yagbonwura arrived in Kumasi on July 1, 2026, with a large and vibrant delegation of divisional chiefs, elders, and government officials from the Savannah Region. The visit formed part of activities marking the fifth Awukudae Festival of the year at Manhyia Palace.

His entourage included Damongowura Kelly Seidu Boresa I, Mankpanwura Achode Borenyi I, Kulawwura Kotokyi Borewunche I, Kekpandewura Shaibu Baba Mumuni Kanyiti I, Savannah Regional Minister Salisu Be-Awuribe, Member of Parliament for Bole Alhaji Yusif Sulemana, as well as other chiefs and government officials.
The historic visit provided an opportunity for traditional leaders to exchange gifts and reaffirm the longstanding fraternal ties between the Asante Kingdom and the Gonja Kingdom.
The event featured a rich display of traditional regalia, energetic dances, and majestic drumming as the two revered leaders sat in state at Manhyia Palace, receiving homage from their respective entourages.
Thousands of residents and visitors gathered within and around the palace grounds to witness the exchange of customary gifts and cultural pleasantries, a spectacle that highlighted the enduring heritage and unity of the Asante and Gonja people.
The courtesy call at Manhyia Palace also provided a platform for both revered traditional leaders to discuss matters of mutual interest, strengthen cooperation between their kingdoms, and advance shared goals of peace, unity, and cultural preservation.
