Tears flow at Alajo as another body discovered in gutter after floods

The lifeless body of a young child has been discovered in a gutter at Alajo following Monday's June 29, 2026, downpour that triggered widespread flooding across Accra and other parts of the country.

The discovery comes after residents in the area perceived a pungent smell emanating from an open gutter in the vicinity.

In a video shared by the state newss on X, on July 3, 2026, crowds gathered at the spot near the gutter where the lifeless body of the child lay.

According to reports, at least 12 people have died in the floods, while hundreds have been rescued from inundated homes and vehicles.

Authorities are yet to officially confirm the child's identity or provide details on the circumstances leading to the incident.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has warned that more rainfall is expected in the coming days and has urged residents living in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant.

Emergency management agencies have also advised the public to avoid driving or walking through floodwaters and to move to higher ground with the onset of heavy rains.
