Some young men who participated in a procession organised by the newly formed political group, ‘The Base Movement’, in Kumasi have stated that they removed their branded T-shirts before heading home because they feared their mothers' reaction.

The procession, held on Friday, July 3, 2026, attracted hundreds of supporters and sympathisers who marched through the principal streets of the Ashanti Regional capital to introduce the movement to residents and mobilise public support.

Participants carried banners and placards as they engaged members of the public along some of the city's busiest streets.

However, as the procession ended, some of the young men were seen removing the T-shirts.

When questioned about their actions, they insisted they did not want to wear the shirts home because of possible backlash from their families.

"Our moms won't give us food if we wear The Base T-shirt home," one of the young men said.

Another participant expressed a similar concern.

"My mom will not talk to me again if she sees me wearing it," he said.

The comments drew laughter from some onlookers as the participants continued to remove the shirts before leaving the procession.

The event formed part of The Base Movement's campaign to increase public awareness of the newly formed political group and rally support in the Ashanti Region.
