NPP communicator, Dennis Miracles Aboagye has faulted the operational capacity of emergency response institutions following the June 29 flooding, arguing that responders lacked the equipment needed to handle the situation effectively.
According to him, local volunteers played a significant role in rescue efforts in some communities because official responders had limited resources available.
“NADMO showed up in a borrowed pickup from the district assembly and came with nothing except their reflective jackets,” he said on Newsfile on Joy News.
Aboagye recounted how residents in some affected areas relied on canoes to evacuate people trapped by floodwaters.
“It took young people from Nungua to come with canoes and start bringing people out of their homes,” he stated.
He said the situation highlighted broader concerns about disaster preparedness and the availability of emergency equipment.
“The disaster management itself is poor. There are no tools, there is no equipment,” he argued.
According to Aboagye, emergency agencies should be adequately equipped to carry out rescues during floods and other disasters.
He questioned whether sufficient rescue resources, including ropes, boats, and other emergency equipment, had been deployed to vulnerable areas.
“Where are the tools required to help people when situations like this occur?” he asked.
