The appointment was announced on Sunday, 5 July 2026.
In addition to Ghana, Shaw has been accredited as non-resident High Commissioner to Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.
According to a statement from Australia's High Commission, the appointment underscores Australia's commitment to strengthening diplomatic engagement with Ghana and the wider West African region.

It noted that Ghana's political stability and regional leadership make it an important partner for Australia, with cooperation continuing to expand in trade and investment, the resources sector and climate-resilient agriculture.
The statement also highlighted Australia's collaboration with African countries to promote peace, stability and security across the West African sub-region.

Australia also paid tribute to the outgoing High Commissioner, Berenice Owen-Jones, thanking her for her service since 2022 and acknowledging her contribution to advancing Australia's interests in Ghana during her tenure.
