The Accra High Court has reportedly confirmed Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as the successor to the Kantanka Empire following the reading of the will of the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Speaking to journalists outside the High Court in Accra on July 6, 2026, Ghanaian fashion icon and member of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Richard Brown, popularly known as Osebo the Zaraman, said the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka named his son, Israel Kwadwo Safo, as his successor.
According to him, the family discovered after the opening of the will that Apostle Safo had bequeathed his entire estate to Kwadwo Safo Kantanka Jnr, also known as Akofena.

“Indeed, after reading the will, it is evident that everything was bequeathed to him. Although we did not support him at the beginning, we now fully accept and embrace this decision because it was our father’s wish. We will therefore support Akofena completely in every way,” he said.
He added that although there had been initial resistance to Safo Jnr’s leadership, the family has now agreed to respect the wishes of the late Apostle.
“If our father has willed all his properties to Akofena, I have no objections. We will all support him fully. I recall mentioning during my press conference that our father always cherished peace while he was alive. So if we open the will and it clearly states that everything has been left to Akofena, who am I to oppose it?” he added.
Meanwhile, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, had earlier stated that her late father left behind a valid will, dismissing claims that he died intestate.
In a statement issued on July 3, 2026, she said issues relating to her father’s estate would be handled in accordance with his wishes as outlined in the will.
“My dad did not die intestate. He left a valid will, which I believe sets out definitive provisions for the administration of his estate, including his properties and inheritance, all of which will be properly addressed and given effect upon the formal reading and execution of same,” she said.
She stressed that the ongoing discussions are not about inheritance, church property, or personal ambition to lead the Kristo Asafo Church.
According to her, her involvement stems from her late father’s directives regarding the leadership of the church and family affairs.
Adwoa Safo explained that Apostle Kwadwo Safo amended the church’s constitution in 2024 to remove Israel Kwadwo Safo as leader of the church and later appointed her as leader of the Kantanka family in February 2025.
She said her father instructed her on his deathbed to ensure those directives were upheld, adding that she considers it her responsibility as his first child to honour his wishes.
She further reiterated that she has never sought personal wealth or benefit from her father’s estate, describing herself as self-made and committed to living independently.
