Melcom confirms fire at Tema Free Zones warehouse

Melcom Group of Companies has confirmed that a fire broke out at one of its warehouse facilities in the Tema Free Zones enclave on Saturday, July 4, 2026, assuring customers that it is working to restore operations and minimise disruptions to its supply chain.

In a statement issued by management, the retail chain said there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the incident, describing the safety and well-being of its employees, business partners and surrounding communities as its highest priority.

The company expressed appreciation to the Ghana National Fire Service, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Ghana Police Service, emergency personnel and other first responders for their swift response in bringing the fire under control.

According to the statement, management is collaborating with the relevant authorities as investigations continue to establish the cause of the fire. The company is also conducting an internal assessment to determine the extent of the damage while implementing measures to secure the affected facility.

Although the incident has significantly affected its warehouse operations, Melcom said it is committed to restoring normal operations as quickly as possible.

"We are committed to restoring operations with minimal interruptions and will do our best to ensure the availability of stock to continue serving our esteemed customers," the statement said.

The company also thanked its employees, customers, business partners, stakeholders and members of the public for their concern and messages of support following the incident.

Melcom did not disclose the value of the damage or provide a timeline for the full restoration of warehouse operations.
