Management of the University of Ghana has reportedly directed its staff and students to suspend all travel to South Africa until further notice.

The directive was contained in an advisory issued on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in response to escalating security concerns stemming from anti-migrant demonstrations and violent attacks targeting foreign nationals.

The report added that the demonstrations have severely disrupted public life and turned violent, raising serious concerns about the safety of foreigners.

“…avoid locations of demonstrations and large gatherings, monitor local media, follow the advice of local authorities as well as Ghanaian diplomatic authorities and maintain contact with officials at the University of Ghana," the advisory stated.
