'My assault case was dismissed' - Man explains viral encounter with policewoman

The man involved in a viral video showing a confrontation with a policewoman at the Afrancho/Akomadan District Police Station in the Ashanti Region has explained that he recorded the incident because he wanted evidence of how his complaint was being handled.

According to him, he had gone to the police station to report an alleged attack involving a pair of scissors but felt his complaint was not being taken seriously by the officer.

Speaking in a video sighted by GhanaWeb on July 7, 2026, he said he informed the female police officer that he was still gathering witnesses as requested by the CID officer to support his complaint and expected the police to begin the process of handling the case.

“I told her that I was unable to reach the witnesses in the case, so they can go ahead with the investigation. So, she thought that the medical forms will discourage me but I was determined. So, as she was going to get the medical forms, she changed her mind because according to her, the case wasn’t that important. She told me that I can take the case anywhere I want.

“I went home and kept thinking about what the police officer had said. I was wondering what the issue was, so I went to the police station to record whatever will transpire there. I saw one of my nephews and I asked him to accompany me to the station. He knew I was recording. I greeted her and told her my intent and she kicked my phone,” he narrated.

Police launch probe into alleged viral misconduct by female officer

Meanwhile, the Ashanti North Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the viral video.

In a statement issued on July 5, 2026, the Command said the police officer involved had been identified and investigations had commenced to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The police officer involved has been identified and investigation has commenced to establish the full facts and circumstances surrounding the incident that is said to have occurred on July 3, 2026,” the statement said.

The Police Command is expected to provide further updates after the completion of investigations.
