The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has called for the swift prosecution of child exploitation and trafficking cases, stressing that delays in delivering justice undermine efforts to protect vulnerable children.
Speaking at the National Justice Conference on child trafficking in Accra on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the Minister said protecting victims must go hand in hand with ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice quickly.
According to the Minister, delays in prosecuting offenders discourage victims and their families from seeking legal redress and embolden perpetrators to continue exploiting children.

“The most important thing for us is not just the protection, but also the prosecution,” Dr Agnes Lartey said, noting that timely justice would strengthen public confidence in the country’s legal system.
The Minister urged the three arms of government and other state institutions to work collaboratively to expedite investigations and court proceedings involving child exploitation and trafficking cases.
She emphasised that effective coordination among law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and the judiciary would not only ensure justice for victims but also encourage more people to report cases of child abuse and exploitation.
The Minister further noted that swift prosecution would serve as a strong deterrent to potential offenders and help create safer environments where children can grow, learn and thrive free from exploitation.
