Two South African women have been filmed being confronted and chased away from a beach bar in Mozambique in what appears to be a retaliatory response to the ongoing xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals in South Africa.

In a video circulating widely on social media, the two women, believed to be South Africans, are seen in a heated argument with a Mozambican beach bar owner who was recording the encounter.

The bar owner can be heard demanding that the visitors leave, questioning why they had chosen to holiday in Mozambique rather than stay in their own country.

"Why are you coming into Mozambique? Why are you not going to Cape Town? Go back," she said in the video.

The two women, however, were defiant, boldly stating, "We are here to visit, we pay you money, unlike you people. You guys are our helpers at home."

The derogatory remarks have further inflamed tensions on social media, with many viewers condemning both the attitude of the South African visitors and the broader attitude of xenophobia among many South Africans.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions across the continent following a fresh wave of xenophobic attacks against foreign nationals, including Ghanaians.

Recently, reports indicated that a state visit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to Ghana was denied, a claim that the South African government has also denied.
